A lip lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the upper lip by shortening the distance between the upper lip and the base of the nose. This procedure can create a fuller and more youthful appearance to the upper lip. Here’s what you can generally expect before, during, and after a lip lift:

Consultation:

Before the procedure, you will have a consultation with a plastic surgeon. During this consultation, you’ll discuss your goals and expectations, and the surgeon will evaluate your facial anatomy to determine if you are a suitable candidate for a lip lift.

Preoperative Preparations:

Depending on your health and the surgeon’s recommendations, you may need to undergo certain preoperative tests. Your surgeon will provide specific instructions on how to prepare for the surgery, including any medications to avoid before the procedure.

Anaesthesia:

Lip lift procedures are typically performed
under local anaesthesia, meaning that only the area around the mouth will be numbed. In some cases, mild sedation may also be used to keep the patient relaxed
and comfortable.

Incision:

A small incision is made at the base of the nose, just above the upper lip. The incision is carefully placed to minimise visible scarring and it resembles the shape of a bullhorn, hence the name!

Tissue Removal:

A small amount of excess skin is removed from the area between the nose and the upper lip. This helps to lift and reshape the upper lip.

Suturing:

The incision is closed with sutures, and the surgeon takes care to ensure proper alignment for an optimal cosmetic outcome.

Recovery:

After the procedure, you can expect some swelling and bruising around the treated area. Discomfort is usually mild and can be managed with pain medication as prescribed by your surgeon. You may be advised to keep your head elevated during the initial recovery period.

Follow-up Visits:

You will have follow-up appointments with your surgeon to monitor the healing process. Sutures may be removed after a certain period, and your surgeon will provide instructions on caring for the incision site.

Results:

The final results of a lip lift become more apparent as the swelling subsides. The upper lip appears fuller, and the overall facial balance is improved. The scar is typically well-concealed within the natural contours of the nose. It’s important to note that individual experiences may vary, and recovery times can differ among patients.
