Breast augmentation in body builders, fitness instructors and athletic females in general are usually more of a challenge. They are generally very lean with a low percentage body fat. The implants usually have to be put under the pectoralis muscle otherwise they are quite visible under the skin. The edge of the implant and ripples of the implant may be obvious unless hidden under the muscle.

On the other hand, the pectoralis muscle is important in the body building world and as much as possible must be done to preserve it’s function and definition. The technique that allows this ie splitting the muscle to allow part of it to cover the top half of the implant and still preserve its function is called ‘the dual plane’ in plastic surgery lingo.

Width, height and projection of the implant has to be carefully chosen to fit each individual so that it looks proportional and not so large that it hides muscle definitions. The choice between a round or a tear-drop shape implant is usually a personal one. The surgery has to be almost more perfect than usual as the body builder’s body is always on display and in the skimpiest of bikini top.
