What is otoplasty?

Procedure Before/After FeesConsent Form Post-Operative Instructions Consultants Testimonials Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and prominence of ears, but some individuals, including children and adults with otherwise normal ears, feel that their ears distinguish them from others. The primary source of concern is typically so called prominent ears.

Prominent ears often lack a normal fold, and sometimes one ear is more prominent than the other. People with prominent ears are sometimes teased, particularly during their school years, and this can affect self confidence.

An otoplaty or pinnaplasty is an operation which adjusts the shape of the c artilage within the ear to create the missing folds and to allow the ear to lie closer to the side of the head.

Typically, an otoplasty procedure involves making a small incision in the natural crease behind the ear, removing small pieces of cartilage if required, and then applying stitches at the back of the ear to reshape or reposition it closer to the head. In your initial consultation, the surgeon will explain the procedure, including any limitations, the location of scars, and any potential short-term or long-term complications.
