Weight Loss Injections

The weight loss injections we supply are provided on a prescription only basis, This is because the medication is used as a supporting tool in weight reduction (in combination with lifestyle and behavioural approaches) in order to achieve a decline in hunger and appetite.

It contains the active ingredient which is a GLP-1 receptor agonist- This is similar to natural human GLP-1 which is the body’s way of communicating the sensation of feeling full to your brain. It therefore reduces feelings of hunger and increases feelings of fullness and satiety, leading to reduced food intake.

It comes in an injection pen which is administered once per day in your fatty tissues (usually your abdomen). The dose is slowly increased over the first four weeks until you reach your full maintenance dose.

Results of a weight loss injection treatment are variable but we would expect you to aim for approximately 10% loss of your initial body weight in your first course of treatment.

Modify Your Lifestyle

The treatment needs to be combined with lifestyle changes including nutritional, exercise and behavioural modifications. This is essential for long-term success and will require ongoing compliance during and after your weight loss injection program.

Your doctor will tell you more about the support modules available through the Weight Journey online service.

Minimum recommended lifestyle measures:

Diet: Increase your hydration levels by drinking 2-3 litres of clear fluids per day. Reduce your calorie intake by 500 kcal per day.

Exercise: Increase your exercise levels to a minimum of 150 minutes/week of moderate exercise (such as a brisk walk) or 75 minutes/week of intense exercise (where you are out of breath and are just about able to hold a conversation but unable to sing).

Behavioural: You will be required to “re-train” your relationship with food. Your doctor will arrange Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBD) input if required.
