The eyes and the surrounding area are of prime importance in the attractiveness of a face. Studies have shown how we automatically scan these features when we look at someone.

The common problems seen with ageing here are lines, laxity (leading to folds and hoods) pigmentations, circulatory congestion and hollows. I have previously written about the treatment of resultant dark circles with Platelet Rich Plasma. Another treatment which we carry out (often as part as overall facial rejuvenation) is skin resurfacing of this area using the CO2 Laser.

This treatment, known as the Madonna Lift to some (although it has never been established if it refers to the singer Madonna) produces subtle pleasing results, with visible softening of lines and skin tightening of the eyelids. The overall impact is one of looking fresher and more alert as the eyes appear more widely open.

The treatment is quick and pain is controlled by the use of both topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) and injection nerve block. We usually recommend a course of 3 treatments bimonthly. As with all laser treatment, sun protection, skin preparation and ongoing skin care are vital to getting the best possible results.
