Dangers of Cosmetic Tourism

With the start of a new year, change is on many peoples’ minds – and that can of course include surgical change. With such a huge number of cosmetic surgery clinics in the UK, sourcing and using the right cosmetic surgery clinic can be a time-consuming and confusing process. The one thing most patients want above all else is peace of mind. Trust that their chosen cosmetic surgeon will do the best possible job with minimal downtime and side effects.

Another factor, understandably, when choosing a cosmetic surgeon is that of cost. There has been much written in the Press about cosmetic surgery overseas, based on cheaper fees than that of the UK. We would warn patients to consider this carefully before booking a clinic overseas.

As people prepare for spring and summer, looking at overseas cosmetic surgery can be appealing: gorgeous locations, shiny seductive websites and brochures, promises of incredible pre- and post-operation service, reduced surgical fees, and credible surgeons, but what if something goes wrong? The costs of revision surgery can mount up, particularly if an alternative cosmetic surgeon is required in the UK following an operation overseas.

Ultimately, there are good and bad cosmetic surgeons everywhere, of course, and finding the right one for you is about much more than simply cost alone. The industry bodies BAAPS and BAPRAS are excellent resources when considering cosmetic surgery.
